Default EITMS Scary situation

Twice yesterday this EITMS thing came on the while riding on the Freeway at 70+ mph

2009 EGlide Classic - no lowers...33k

I'll explain Mid 80's here in the Cincinnati area, high humidity! Cruising across I 275 bridge and boom! That dang EITMS comes on - Scary! slowed
to about 40mph go on the emergency half lane - with flashers on...made it
to the other side! Turned bike off turned back on and turned on ignition fob
turned on switch on handlebar - but did not start....turned throttle grip forward until "green" cruise control light came on....Restarted bike and rode home - accidentally turned throttle forward this time and had no more problem!

WTH is going on - Yeah! I read the manual! How do I disable this nightmare completely!!!!

Any answers out there - Thanks in advance...

If your traveling at 70 mph , EITMS is not supposed to come on at all. You have a problem and your dealer should take a look. EITMS TURNS OFF FUEL TO REAR CYLINDER WHILE AT IDLE when cylinder temp reaches to high a level. Never should turn on when throttle is applied.

To disable it turn on ignition and roll throttle forward. Hold until cruise control light flashes yellow. That denotes the system is turned off

While you may in fact have a cylinder failing to fire, I would not think EITMS would be the cause at speed. Disabling will prove one way or another...be prepared for further trouble shooting

What are you riding? Sounds more like limp mode.( oh I'm sorry my dealer told me there's no such thing) mine did that a few years ago I took electrical contact cleaner and dielectric grease and did every connection on the bike the first one to do is the plug in connection behind the air cleaner that plugs into the throttle body if you are so equipped

Since posting earlier in the day - I used the "Search" function
and have determined my bike goes into a "Limp Mode" (WTH is that!) Limp Mode ------Several of the responses indicated
this happened to them as well - i.e. "Limp Mode" from70+ to 35mph.....they as I did barely made it off the road at 30 mph!!!

Regardless, How do I fix it so that it does not happen again?

I just had this happen to me on my '09 Ultra just last month. It's wiring; most likely where it connects to the throttle body. I had some broken pins, the dealer replaced the end and lengthened it a little so it wasn't so tight. Not that it matters but I had 79,500 miles when it happened.

EITMS only works at idle, not in a parade, slow speed etc. If the bike thinks it's hot enough to turn on while you're sitting I let it. I'll never understand why some think it hinders their ride.
