Default low end power

Which would be the least expensive way of get a bit more start off power . 09 ultra stock with V&H monster ovals and high flow AC and a PV . Would it be cheaper to change gear ratio or cams . Mostly 2 up and heavy on hot .days it take.a bit to get rolling
Thanks
Dave

I would go cams that way you don't sacrifice top end speed it may not be cheaper but you can get some nice low end high torque cams besides I give you a chance to look in the cam chest for a good inspection and if you get a set of adjustable push rods you don't even have to remove the head. If that's not in budget baker makes a replacement drive pulley a couple of teeth smaller

I haven't used the pv but I'm sure it's similar to other flash tuners. What cams do you have is the first question. Second, are you using a canned map from some one? I believe you have an auto tune option with your pv. You can also look around for an experienced tuner familiar with pv and get a custom dyno tune. Before you start changing cams or going to a higher displacement motor, I would make sure you don't have a dip in your torque curve at lower rpms.

Cam is fairly easy to do on your own if you have the tools. I put Woods 5-6 in my '09 RG with the same set-up you have and it was great off the bottom. Its worthwhile to get a dyno tune when you add cams I feel tho the PV does a good job.

Thanks - i can do all the work myself and im not a high speed rider 70 mph would be tops and lots of hills where i live , for cams i would look at w222 or andrews 48 . but was wondering about gearing im a big guy 300 + wifes a lot smaller but loaded we are 500 plus . In my old Shovel days gearing was a big improvement
As far as i know bike is stock cams and gearing at about 40,000 miles and runs great - no oil usage etc

Chose your cam well if you go that way most are designed to make more umph in the mid and upper rpm ranges, got 2 buddies lost lower end going with the popular cams recently.

Dropping a tooth on the tranny sprocket would probably be more in line with what you want.

The 96 CI is a dog IMO so I feel your pain. If I was going to keep mine for very long I would put in Andrews 57 like I have in my Road King. Sure gave that dog a big bark with sharp teeth. But alas it will be my trade in or sell bike to get the RGU I have to have.

So would there be a belt change needed or can the adjuster take up the slack ?

Thanks

Dave

If you drop a tooth or two you can use the stock belt not sure how far you can go down before you need to change the belt but changing the drive pulley should help your situation I have heard of guys changing the driven pulley instead that may be easier to do I'm sure someone here knows
