Default Dyno tuning????

I'm buying the Thnudermax electronic system with O2 sensorsfor my bike. Engine will be a 120 Cubic inch, tru-dual with bassani slip ons. They tell me I'll have to pay to have it "Dyno" in. What the hell is dyno? ThunderMax is fully auto.

The thundermax tuner is an auto tune module, and dos not require a dyno session. Some dealers will try and sell you a dyno tune session which allows them to set your bike up on a machine that measures horsepower and air/fuel ratios for tuning purposes. That is normal with a sert, but the Thundermax does not require it if your capable of installing it yourself. You will need a laptop and should have experience with serial connections and softwarein order to install it yourself, should you want to do that. It takes about an hour to install the module and the 02 sensor cables, and another half hour to locate the right map for your use and to install it and test the setup. If you can do that and the exhaust yourself, it makes for a fun afternoon. If going this route, also get a good stage 1 air cleaner to complete this performance upgrade. If you are having it dealer installed, tell them the autotuners do not require dyno sessions as they read their own AFR readings and tune themselves. Dyno's are only used when your trying to tweak a map that is challenging due to a custom build where you want tosee exactly whats going on while your running it.

I did it with my build but we only did it to benchmark the T-Max and see if it was as bang on as they claimed. It was, it is, and it rocks. My dyno time was free as I know the dealer quite well. Post some more info about the build you are planning. What make are the jugs, heads, pistons, cams throttle body etc, and who is recommending the build for you? Perhaps you might consider riding this bike with a stage 1 upgrade for a bit whilst you learn what all the performance mods are about before jumping in head first. Just some simple advice is all that's intended with that comment so don't takethat the wrong way.

Cheers!

I started out wanting a bit more power. Then I said I wanted the best. ThunderMax with O2 sensors was suggested by Bassani and V&H agreed. Usint tru-dual with2 1/2" buflaesbaffles, along with Stage I intake. Not sure why they want to map it... may have something to do with radical 1800 cc engine.

Well it sounds like you need a to learn a lot more since the combo you are talking about is all wrong for the 120" motor you spoke of in your earlier post. A true performance bike will not use true duals, but would likely have a 2 into 1 performance pipe if your after the best performance and parts, and that's just for starters. What motor are you talking about buying, who's installing it for you, what pipe are they recommending, what riding style do you have, what type of bike is it going into, and how long have you been riding? Those are all important questions to be answered before one jumps into a real motor. I sense you are a bit naive about this stuff and that can make for a real disaster if you don't know what you after.
