Default How to take off lowers

Okay, now that I want to take off my lowers, it looks fairly simple. There are two "retainer nuts" and a torx 40 according to my shop manual. Unfortunately, all the manual says for removing the retainer nuts is: "remove the retainer nuts." Thanks a heap! So are these threaded or what? They are not true hex nuts, they've got six sides, but they're kind of narrower on two edges. They are kind of hard to reach, but I can get on them with a needle nosed pair of vise grips. Since I don't want to break them, and they don't seem to turn very easily, can someone tell me how to remove them?

Thanks in advance--

yooper

I use the proper size socket(1/2 in??) and an extension to get at them. They come off very easy. The screw is stationary and stays inside the compartment inside the lower. The nut will come off. The torx screw is pretty self explanatory. I usually then screw the nut back on the screw for safe keeping.

Yeah, not only the lowers come off here in Houston, but also the little "wings" on the lower part of the fairing. I've thought about getting some of the vented wings to aim air at me, but don't necessarily like the size or the looks of the Kury's.

Man, it's hot down here already! 94 degrees today, and about 80% humidity!!!

Thanks for the tips. They were just nuts as you suggested, just not normal looking ones. Ahhhhhhhhh. Rides like a dream now. Much cooler. Looks better too I think. Even seems to handle better (I know that's all in my mind, but it does). They may never go back on, and I live up nort'!
