Cruise Control stopped working yellow engine light on.
OK, I pulled the coupler and sprayed it with CRC QD Electronic Cleaner(Wal-Mart.) It worked for about 1 mile. I have not been able to get it to work again. I have sprayed it several times and have put bulb grease on it. The orange thing which looks like it was designed to seal it was bunched up in the female end. I pulled it out. It is broken. Maybe I can replace it. The coupler now locks into place but the service engine soon light(yellow engine light) is back. The coupler looks kind of hard to access to clean. I sprayed it but one of you suggested I take it apart and clean it. I plan on riding Thursday to the VA rain or shine again. Maybe, it will just start working again.

Reset the computer. Turn the ignition switch on and off five times in a row.
On/off, on/off, on/off, on/off, on/off
Hopefully that will set things straight for you.
If water gets into that connection you will have problems!
OK, I sprayed the electrical connector to my THROTTLE CONTROL ACTUATOR (TCA) with contact spray.
The bike apparently does not have a Throttle position sensor(TPS).
It made the cruise work for about 3 miles. Have not been able to get the cruise working since. I still have the orange engine looking light on the left main instrument. My shop manual does not have the electrical diagnostics annex. I am shopping for a manual. Any suggestions.
I gotta ask...why is it bad to use the cruise control on wet roads?
The cruise control will accelerate at the worst possible time, like in the middle of a curve, risking hydroplaning on a wet road. I use the cruise control a lot, but never on wet roads.
It's not recommended in cars too for the same reason.

Check for crimped or broken wires at the back of the connector. Mine had a wire pull out of the crimp pin and caused all kinds of issues making intermittent contact.

to further expand on joe's answer, if your tires begin to lose traction, you will naturally lose speed. the cruise control will then accelerate to bring you back up to speed, but since you have no traction, you're still losing speed, so the cc accelerates even more..... bad juju...
Check your brake light for operation. I believe CC & brake lights are on the same circuit. Since the operation was intermittent, maybe a faulty filament was vibrating on & off. Just a shot in the dark, but it doesn't cost anything.

I could that being logical in a torrential downpour, or maybe in a lane with standing water...but on just a wet road? I've never experienced that kind of traction loss on a wet road. they sure get slick in the first ten minutes of rain, but the slime is long gone after that. live and learn I guess
