I actually have one of those...... an LTZ with a full 6 speaker Bose system in it..... LOL
Back to topic though I am 50y/o and been riding almost daily since I was 17 on the road so I am half deaf. I don't notice it I was just citing what others have observed and trying to let the OP know that he wasn't nuts. I think the money these guys sink into audio on bikes is insane but...... I prefer black paint on all my vehicles (4) and rotts for pets.. Everyone is different.
I honestly thought it was my imagination, age or drowning of audio in the engine sounds. I do know that audio fed via the aux input sounds tons better either way. The radio sounds decent when the bike is off, sound is lost when running. Have yet to try a CD.
I believe one member who posted in that thread had looked at the firmware and found there definitely was a difference in the sound output when the bike was off as opposed to when the engine was running. I certainly can tell a difference, as can many others.
Fairly correct. The headunits internal .bin file (for the DSP) changes via a voltage spike (bike on vs off). You will notice this on ALL 2014+ bikes. As SBATES said, thank HD and HK for this crap idea.
There are ways around this but it requires upgrades to audio equipment/tuning/flashes/etc.
head to the audio forum and read up. We've covered this extensively there.
And what would it matter? It could NEVER sound as good with the bike running , competing with engine , exhaust, wind, Ect. It is what it is. Just enjoy it.
The infotainment maker can make the sound louder when riding by taking out the richness/fullness of the music to compensate for the inferior speakers and components.
You loose sound levels and quality moving down the road anyways so they want to make it louder.
Why else would they have on.bin and off.bin files?
If there wasn't a reason for the two why would they have them.
To me there is a big difference sitting still, with bike running vs not running.
