Default Primary oil

Hey guys,

I apologize in advance if this is a stupid question or something that was already covered.

I have a diesel truck, is rotella t6 5w40 suitable for running in my my primary?

I usually have some T6 left over after an oil change it would be nice if I could use it in my mc without any bad side effects.

Thanks in advance

Dan

yes, you can use it with no ill effects, just change it once in a while.

i run straight 40 wt from napa in mine.

i have another bike that i run atf in.

dont over think it, the primary chain and clutch pack and comp needs oil, it does not care about brand.

Owning a Harley and now saving a few bucks?

A qt. of primary oil won't break the bank.
Check the owners or service manual for correct amount.

I use designated oil that says Primary!
Label that way for a reason.
Even Amsoil has three oils listed.
Primary, engine and transmission.

No. Run a Motorcycle oil that's made to work with the clutch friction discs. Car and diesel engine oils aren't.

Primary only and look at the manual for the proper amount - just don't put a Qt in and think its correct.....

Harley Davidson Formula Plus seems to work well, it's for primaries and transmissions.

I've read that someone tested Formula + and discovered it's essentially 50 wt gear oil. I haven't been able to confirm.

If indeed it is 50 wt gear oil, I wouldn't mind finding a suitable substitute available at local auto supply stores. Something that is equally good for the comp and the clutch ('14 RK). It would save me a trip to the dealer for $9/qt Formula +. I bought a jug of Rotella dino 15/40 for the primary but haven't tried it yet.

I use M1 syn 20/50 or 15/50 in the engine and Valvoline Syn 75W/140 gear oil in the tranny. Less dependence on the HD dealership the better...
