Put a set of rocker lockers in it. Easy to do and cheap enough. If you see witness marks on the rocker arm shaft bolts, then you have metal to metal contact which will make a clinky type of sound. This is from the movement of the rocker shaft, back and forth as it hits the bolt. Once the "rocker lockers" are in pace, it will hold the shaft stationary, as it should, while the rocker arms do their thing.

P.S. Not sure who's lifters you have in there, but I can tell you that I had the opportunity to experience Jims lifters as well as the stock oem Harley lifters. Both my applications I had replaced those as mentioned with the S&S Premium, and there was a big difference in how quiet the engine ran with the S&S Premiums. Quietest running lifters i've ever experienced.

He readjusted the pushrods
P.S.S. The factory pushrods are fine with the factory pushrod tubes, although when you replace the factory pushrods with adjustable ones, you have to clearance the top of the tubes, or get the tubes that are intended for the adjustable pushrods. If not, the pushrods will run into the tubes.

I didn't read anything in your posts about an aftermarket fuel management system. Are you running this bike with the factory oem fuel management system?

Have a look around my website, might be just what you need. It's a very common problem.

========================

What you describe is very likely either detonation or a valvetrain issue of some sort.

What compression is your 107 motor?

Even though you tried lucas octane booster i found from trying it 1st hand its not great a boosting octane like for example real lead supreme 130 thats the real lead used to increase octane in leaded fuel 40yrs ago.

I suggest that because if its detonation you could end up chasing your tail & spending a lot of time/effort/money going after other things if it was simply the motors setup & tune (compression/cam choice/ign timing curve) requiring considerably more octane to stop the detonation or maybe retarding timing a few deg to stop it though doing that will likely reduce perf/pwr/trq too.

Go to WildBillsCorvette website to buy real lead octane booster,its not cheap but it does job the lucas cant i found 1st hand in hi perf hi compression old school big block chevy's i own & build for other people too.

Heres a link to the real lead booster that you can mix to over 100octane lvl & still comes out to costing less per gal then buying race fuel of same approx octane lvl.

The 2nd mechanic put rock outs rocker lockers in it. The push rods and tubes is the screamin eagle kit so it should be ok. The compression is 10.5:1. Ive ran this set up for 10-12k miles. Ever since the build it has seeped a little oil from the rear lower rocker box gasket so all i had done from mechanic 1 was change that gasket out and i powder coated my top rocker boxes black when he noticed i must have had a bent push rod in the front cylinder. The lifters are wood lifters. The push rod wasnt bent bad at all. But when he changes them i guess he wasnt familiar with performance lifters got impatient on adjusting them and crashed my valves in both heads the front was bad enough the valves didnt even close. Fuel moto replaced the valves and all that put it back together the rear still didnt sound right. Took it to a more knowledgeable mechanic and he put the rock outs in it readjusted the valves found the rear valves must have just kissed from mechanic 1. Got fuel moto to redo those valvws put it back together and all seems well except under ceetain load around 3-3500 rpm or so. Which leads him to believe its detonation but be said if thats it its by far the worst he has ever heard. What i cant wrap my head around is if the combination of parts is the same then why would it do that? 650 miles on it today and all seems to be ok but i havent cracked into the throttle hars enough to make it rattle. Only thing ive noticed so far is now when i start it somethin squeeks and rev it a couple times i hear a squeek then goes away but also did ride probly at least 350 miles in rain today so im not to concerned about that yet

Did the original mech clearance the valve covers? Doesnt sound like it, and if he didnt the valves will stay open a tad, because the valve cover will push the valve spring open, probably enough to keep the valve off the seat.
