Since adding lowers, it's hard to see what the down side of them is. They're functional and look good on the bike.
The downside is they make you hot when temps are above 75.
I love 'em when it's cold, hate 'me when it's warm. Gotta have the quick mounts so you can install/remove in minutes.

I'm in Florida, the feels like has been in the 100's lately and haven't noticed any difference with the lowers on. Most of the time when you notice the heat from the motor, you're at a standstill and the lowers aren't going to make a difference if you're stopped.
I have hard lowers on my Electra Glide and I really like them for keeping my feet dry when the roads are wet and when it's really cold but they won't do anything for reducing the wind coming under your fairing that is causing your beard to blow upwards.
A few years back I installed those funky looking fork mounted fork air deflectors, that pushes the air up and out of the slot underneath the fairing which really reduces the air coming under the fairing. The air that's lifting your beard.
On my EG Limited with a hard lowers and fork mounted air deflectors the air pocket is so calm that I could smoke while riding down the road. I really like the calm air pocket for listing to music.
I put a set of lowers on my '08 .... definitely redirects a lot of the air that
came from under the fairing and over the gas tank, even with the vents open.
When it's hot, open the vents ... when it's cold, close the vents.
Keep my facial hairs short....so no issues there.
