She was wearing boots, but they were cut below the ankle. We'll be shopping for a pair of above ankle boots soon.

I have a 07 Ultra and simply love the bike. The only negative thing I can say, relates to the heat issue from the rear exhaust. The feet of the rear passenger are like marshmellows getting roasted, and the rider is in dire straits if he has to stop in traffic.

Motor City has to be aware of this design flaw, and should address it by recalling the bikes back in and have the heat deflectors installed. One could make a compelling argument that as is, this design is a bona fide safety issue. Motor City only has to look as far as Chevy, Ford and Chrysler and why they lost customers by not stepping to the plate on quality control matters. There are those who will say only Motor City can make a quality touring bike. Really? I would not want to tempt Japan when it comes to producing a quality product.

Not holding my breath; I went ahead and ordered heat shields from rjsoriginals.com and they should arrive in the next couple of days. Once installed and put through a trial-run; I will report the findings.

Also, I have heard that a good 2-1 pipe will help with the heat, incase the rjoriginals don't cut it. But, I bet along with the taller boots, she will be okay. 2-1 improve performance, I hear. Although, the isn't for me, unless you add the ghost pipe. But, then again, you are throwing money at a situation that should have been addressed by MoCo. They are trying to find a solution, I have read, but nothing I would want to do to my bike. Lucky for me, I have a '05. Still get heat, but not unbearable. Good luck making the ol' lady happy.

HD is offering a free dealer-installed software upgrade called the Engine Idle Temperature Management System (EITMS). During hot idle and only when the motorcycle is stationary, EITMS shuts off fuel to the rear cylinder and allows it to cool down rapidly. When that cylinder cools, or the motorcycle moves, normal operations resumes.

Getting mine done on the 22ndof this month, just toooooo frigin hot in slow moving traffic. I also removed my lower fairings.

I purchased the bike on April 30th of this year, so I was told that it came with rear cylinder cutoff upgrade. Didn't seem to make a big difference to my passenger's ankle. I also changed to synthetic oil at the 1000 mile service. My dealer said changing to sythetic would only reduce the temperature by about 10 degrees.

next to last sentence of the article in "Enthusiast":
Sturdy long pants will also help protect the legs of the rider and passenger from the heat that naturally radiates from the engine.

Don't expect much if anything from this download. It only kicksin at idleand stationary. The moment you move it shuts off so it's no going to do much unless your completely stopped for some time.

Wife and hop'd on the bike and headed down to Greenville this weekend. Roughly 200 mile round trip.

I have the racer tuner with Rhinehart slip-ons and filter upgrades (also switched to Syth at the first service). I have had the bike Dyno'd 3 times for the heat and it is still unbareable in stop and go traffic with the outside temp around 85+. Saturday was hot and she blistered her inner right leg from the heat coming off the bike.

Still love my Harley.. just an awesome ride BUT.... I just want the MC to stop dicking me around and just post the parts that need to be installed to correct it. There is no way they do not already know the fix. I mean, i came here and i followed the majority of posts and their advice. I spent 1200 bucks, after the sale, to "fix" the EPA's issues and for what? I still have the same heat issue as before the upgrades... yea yea yea.. it lowered the temps a few degrees but not enough to enjoy a hot riding day on it.

Document this incident, in the event there is a class action suit, due to the heat issues we mayforce the MOCO to fix the problem. Sorry about you S/O. This is a major problem with our 07's.
Good Idea maybe we can bankrupt HD and then we can ride.........
Oh yeah the other American made motorcycle Victory owned by Polairis.

Hey sorry to read about the SO's burns.

Why take it out on HD when it is the EPA that makes them change the bike to please them?
You vote right?
Harley can and will fix the issues soon but you may not like the fix.
Can you say watercooled? Reveloution powered Baggers coming soon.

Honestly, adding water cooling to my UC would not end my HD experience. In fact, it would ease my mind in terms of long term abuse on the engine and parts from the excessive heat and wear.

Just sucks after spendind 1200 bucks I have to shut the engine off when i come to a stop light in stop and go traffic. That alone is making my ride dangerous but its either that or I go a few blocks/miles .. pull over and let it cool down and they resume...
