I finally pulled the trigger
Just ride it a while, and do what you need to fit YOU.
Decide on whatever theme you like, and if/when you change grips, pegs, footboards, whatever, keep that theme going all over the bike. You will be glad you did.
I had heritage bars put on mine, a common upgrade, made mine much more comfortable. The dealer can hold a pair out next to yours for a general comparison for you to decide.
Get the service manual, and study it well, along with other pertinent info.
Enjoy it, and ride safe!
Great move! I went through the exact same thing on my Dyna. Loved it solo but no good for the wife on anything longer than an hour no matter what I changed.
The few things I changed on my 16 are the mufflers- SE slip installed before I rode it home, passenger backrest, rack, factory Ultra heat shields (big help!), deleted the heel shifter, shortened the windshield 4". Oh and I replaced the front lock pin in each bag with a bolt & nut.
there's a couple other small things I would like to do but I really like it just the way it is now.
The rubber muffler bushings that hold them to the mount will get hard and squeak for you after a short while I bet. The dealer will replace them under warranty.
