i have an 07 ultra classic with rineharts true duals and a pc3 with a map frpm dynojet....it is still hard to start but took alot of the low end miss away...but now say i am in 5th or 6th gear and am holding it steady at 60 or 65 and then go to wide open throttle fast it will make a sound like the timing is too high like spark knock.but if i roll the throttle steady to wide open it doesnt do it..just on quick blips of throttle...any ideas what this could be?
Funny you should say that: I have the P/C III with fulsac, K/N A/F and SuperTrapp Slip ons. Map by Jamieat FuelMoto. Yesterday I noticed the same thing you are, at the same speed and gears. I'm getting a big knock at times, scared the hell out of me. Never had this problem for the first 3 months I've had all this gear on the bike.
I'm hoping it's just a bad tank of gas, went out and bought some boost to put in with the next few tanks. I have a feeling that most people are burnin' the cheapest gas they can buy, so the premium just sits in the tanks at the stations androts.
I know for a fact I'm not lugging the engine. I also pretty sure the cagers on the interstate were wondering if I was drunk, because I would blow by them doing 80+ and then slow down to 60 in4th and then backup to 80 again, the whole time doing this with my head down and close to the engine. LOL
I am having the same problem. My setup is:
-PCIII with custom map from Jamie
-K&N High Flow Kit
-V&H Ovals
I talked with Jamie on Thursday and he told me to put -3 in the ignition timing table from 500-2500. He also asked me if I had zero'd out the throttle at idle (which I already did). I tried the -3, but still am hearing the sparking sound. I am going to call him tomorrow and find out what to try next.
Also, mine seems to happen once the bike has warmed up. I can hear it from an idle when revv'ing the engine. Also when changing gears and it idles down some in between shifts.
Recently I have noticed the same ping I think. If I get on the throttle between gears I can hear a ping. Other then that runs good. I'm using a map from Jamie. I have VH Ovals and A/N B/S PC3 on an 07 RK. Any one figured out a fix for it does changing those values work
DMHOSTING Did you ever get the pinging to go away? Which values did you end uop changing? Mine is still pinging if I get on the throttle if I roll into it easy it's fine.
I have an 07 Street Glide with 103 kit, Rinehart True Duals, PCIII, and Screaming Eagle Air Cleaner. I had the noise that some of you are talking about. It sounded to me like a cassette tape rewinding when I got on the throttle hard for a split second. I had it at the dealer 4 times and they finally got it to go away. They had to richen the lower end of the power curve up and retard the engine timing some. It runs great now and does not make that annoying noise anymore. My major problem now is that the dealer lost my ACC helmet. I left it there for the tech to wear because apparently the dealer requires the techs to wear a full helmet and then they could not hear the noise. Now the dealer claims he is not responsible for articles left there. I had to explain the reason I left it there and the money I spent there to get him to reason. He ordered me a new ACC helmet.

Damn straight! You better believe they'd be getting me a new helmet.
What is also surprising is that they do runs with full helmets on expecting to hear anything going on with a motor, trans, etc., to be begin with.

Try adding some more fuel down low. Sometimes retarding the timing is not the answer. I think I would add more fuel before messing with the timing. My 06 did the same thing after the dealer tuned it using a SERT. They retarded the timing and my engine was running extremely hot. I advance the timing between 2000 and 3200 rpm and added fuel using the accel enrichment table. This adds full only under heavy accel. I have no experience with the PCIII son I can't help you with that.
