For anyone still following the thread... I tightened up the nuts on the headers a bit and the noise is gone. One nut from each cylinder was maybe an 1/8th of a turn too loose. Now I'm back to the rattling noise in the top end. Sounds like marbles in a tin can.

Could be light load rattle. Does it do it after it is warmed up?

Well it looks like my main issue is the head gasket. The more I rode the bike yesterday the louder it got. Every time I cranked the throttle to downshift I could hear a crack on the left side of the bike. Once I got home I put my hand next to the jugs by the head and I could feel the air being forced out. I'm not entirely convinced that the rattling is a result of the head gasket, but I'll find out for sure tonight.

Very good call! I'm always impressed with some of the answers on this forum. Half the time it seems like people are just pulling stuff outta their asses but it winds up being correct!

So for future reference, the chirping was likely caused by the headers not being completely tight. We'll see if the marbles in a tin can sound is the head gasket when I pull it apart tonight.

Make sure the surfaces are good and clean. It's aggravating I know. I went through it on a build myself. Getting them sealed will likely cure all your noises.

Shouldn't be but anything is possible. From his signature he's running a FM 107 with Level B heads. Pretty sure all of that would've been checked by FM but an incorrect torque sequence could tweak them.

Yeah everything is brand new. Only 100 miles on the build so the surfaces should be perfect. I bought new head bolts but reused the studs. I'm wondering if that was a mistake now...
