a while back I bought a 25$ shifter lever off eBay. Installed as heel shifter. From what I remember it slide right on. Yesterday I pulled it and installed it as the toe shifter. Problem is it was a pretty tight fit at the point in the shaft where the toe shifter sits. I cleaned the shaft and lever hole with a wire brush and some brake kleen. Then spayed both with graphite dry lube. Slide it on the shaft and once it reached the toe area splines I had to pound it further. Used a rubber mallet and did the best I could by putting a block in behind the shaft and linkage parts to keep the stuff from moving around.
hope I didn't damage anything. You guys think of any parts or pieces that are susptible to damage from this?
In the future just spread the split in the splines with a sturdy flat tip screw driver, after ensuring the bolt is indeed backed out enough or removed, and it'll slip right on.
Don't use a screwdriver... I have a plastic wedge I use that's sold in packs of 10 or so to level toilets ect.. it works perfect I cut it down the middle to make i narrow Also helps with removal.. also use just a touch of anti seize when installing.
