If you don't have any other Compensator type issues, and don't want to replace it, try starting it neutral. There is less strain on the drive train, and might resolve this problem.
Sounds like the compensator is starting to wear but it probably has some life in it if it is only doing it occasionally and specifically on hot starts.
Another trick to try. Be very conscious of the start button. Hold it down firmly all the way and make sure it is fully started before letting go. If you let of off to soon or don't have it fully depressed and the starter drops out at the wrong time, it can cause what you describe.
Remember that the compensator acts like a shock absorber to the crank. We've all bottomed out a shock, that doesn't mean it's bad. That clank your hearing is simply the compensator hitting it's limit. Doesn't necessarily mean it's bad or failed until it's doing it consistently/constantly.
Went to fill it up and when I go start it, there would be a crunch coming from the primary and it eventually starts when holding the starter button on the handlebar.
On an unrelated note I get slight hesitation riding slow speed due to the heat, what would be the cause of this fueling issue?
