Default Starting in Netural

I could of swore that my 16SG would crank over in any gear as long as the clutch was pulled in...

Now that I have it back from having it repaired after my accident it only starts in Neutral.

So should it be able to crank in any gear with the neutral pulled in or not??

I'm not sure if this helps, but my 09 will start in any gear with the clutch pulled in.

The switch is super sensitive. Mine stopped after I put apes on but if I mess with the switch cover and the clutch lever bolts I can get it to work. I don't know the magic formula on how to put all that back together and get the micrometer of push that you need to activate it. I have searched on this subject before and found a lot of folks had this issue and took to the dealer who eventually replaced the switch panel.

it isn't completely repaired. take it back and have them fix it. it should absolutely start in gear if you have the clutch pulled in.

What switch are you talking about? Do the newer Harleys have switch to disable the starter if your transmission is in gear?
My KLR650 had stupid switch that disables the starter if your kickstand was down.
Anyway, If so just permanently wire in a jumper to bypass those idiot prove switches.
All the older, (my current ride is a 2010) electric start Harleys I've owned would start in gear, if not, maybe your clutch is not fully disengaging when your pulling it in.
The old kick start Harleys had to be in neutral kick over.

My '09 always started in gear until recently. Now it occasionally won't start in gear. Weird. Dealer mechanic had no answer but he did suggest always starting in neutral because, clutch in or not, the tranny turns with the starter if in gear.
