Some times after some work codes need to be cleared. They should not keep coming back if they do something is not done right.
CANBUS is not new we had it on HD for a while now.
It's actually been around since the 1980s, although it was a slow starter - took Harley over 20 years to adopt it.
CANbus will throw codes if the battery is disconnected, among other things. It can become very fussy if you power up the bike before completing a circuit.
The codes are just historic codes. Clear them, and move on.

At best, the tech doesn't understand the procedures and passed his confusion on to the service manager.
At worst, they were using this to avoid admitting to possible missed steps in the installation.
