Sometimes when I start the bike the tach is not registering. OK, maybe a loose connection? I'll deal with it later. Then I got out on the road and the speedo was not working. So both don't work at the same time.
Then I can turn off the bike and turn it back on and both the tach and speedo work... Mmmmmm Suggestions? Seems like the same circuit?
Treat the simple first! Check out those suspected poor/dirty connectors. Some years ago I had a bike (not a Harley), which would occasionally cut-out when turning on the right flasher - took a lot of determined effort to find! Best of luck.
