The 2500 mile service is nothing but a scam. If it was necessary then HD would void your warranty if you did not have it performed.
If you go here to the service checkup page of the HD homepage, it states at the bottom of the list as follows...
Wonder how they can twist that up where it says "Should be performed by an authorized Harley-Davidson dealer" I see that saying that you can perform the service check if you have the credentials or are "mechanically qualified". Who determins that?
I also do the oils at 2500 mile intervals

Not sure I understand why you think it is a scam..? Since it isn't recommended and/or required, I am doing because I want to. I also change my vehicle oil at 3000 where the manual says every 7500 miles. Just a personal preference. Ride safe!
I just picked my 07 RKC up for it's 1000 mile service and my owners manual says the next service is 5000, I too used synthetic and am going to change every 2500.
