Where did you stay in Maggie? I miss the days that Derrick owned the "APPLE COVER INN"... it used to be the best motorcycle friendly place in the area...
I hear it has gone down hill since being sold... Don't remember what they renamed it...
Next time your in the area, stay at The Valley Inn. Very biker friendly. Owners name is Andy Taylor.
Must be the odd man out. I spent 3 great days riding around the Smoky mountain national park a couple years ago in full color early October doing all the rides but hitting the brp out of Cherokee became boring pretty quick. The crazy slow speed limits and pretty much same views just got old and I didn't last for day 2...
Roanoke Va Resident here. I would take my time with all of the animals on the parkway. 2 days is a good pace. 3 would be better so you can see everything you want to see. Hit me up if you stop in Roanoke.
I have gone down there several times a year for over a decade with the exception of this year when i went to CO.... Asheville to Cherokee is the best part of the ride on the parkway.
agree .... love that section so much i have done it numerous times....never get tired of it.... get to the bottom in cherokee , rest at visitor center and ride up thru the park to the top...., then ride back down and over mountain to maggie and eat at butts on the creek and check out jacks leather shack and the wheels thru time museum.... beautiful part of the world and i wish i was there right now

We rented a house that was on a hillside above a golf course.

Maggie Valley is definitely the place to stay. My last visit I stayed at The Cardinal Inn. It's a small (maybe 10 rooms) motel that is owned by 2 sisters who live on site. They were the friendliest innkeepers I've ever had the pleasure of meeting and the rooms were very clean and nice. I will stay there, if possible, on all my return trips.
