Just remove the mount. I left my cradle on my last two bikes when I got rid of them because my garmin does dual duty in our cages as well. I just put new mounts on the new rides.
If you want a decent device to dedicate to this, right now I think the Moto E4 can be had for $40 as a prepaid device on Verizon. Would be a nice upgrade from the Moto E2 I originally used. I'm using a Galaxy S6 currently.
