i have a 76 flh the bendex stayes engaged i put a new solenoid on tried it and it seemed ok then a day later i went to start it and the same problem. i just rebuilt the bike from frame up. except i have the original starter motor. my question is if the starter stays running would that keep the bendex engaged ?

If the starter stays powered up it will stay engaged yes if the Dennis is sticking in the fly wheel you can try to shim the starter away from the fly wheel and see if that helps

I would just buy a new bendex and install it.
