Default Detachable Tour Pack Question

For those that have the detachable tour pack, is there any issues associated with it? Such as rattling, coming loose while riding, appearance?

In general do you like it? I know that it is imposing to ask you to do it, but if you have a side profile pic or any pic would you please post it.

Thank you!
Jim

On my 2003........tight as can be.

On my 2015, if it's unloaded, it shakes and rattles a bit. Not a big deal, but kinda annoying. Packed with 10-15 pounds of stuff, tight as can be. Yes, I like it. Have the quick detach on both bikes an almost never comes off. Actually, on my 2015, it's never been off.

Mine came on it when I bought it and I don’t notice any rattles at all. I will say with it off the bike handles better without the weight up high. The only thing I’ve noticed is be careful putting it on as it’s a little heavy and I assume the original owner of mine couldn’t hold it still enough and banged the fender putting it on.

Aftermarket, with slight rattle when empty. Does not come loose.

My passenger states it feels like it’s pushed her forward closer to me and we do seem to bump helmets more. The removable backrest sits too low on her lower back, and since she rides with me 99% of the time, needless to say, the tour-pack remains on the bike. One word of caution; wiring! The removable rack that replaces the stock one does not have the shelf that the wiring usually sits in, allowing the connectors to dangle on your fender which eats the paint to the metal. Don’t ask me how I know. Also, you’ll have to relocate your antenna. Relocation bracket comes with kit. Depending on where you live, expect to lose reception big time. Also ended up buying a shorty antenna because didn’t trust that stock one wouldn’t hit/rub against tour-pack even after bending bracket. I ride a ‘16RGU, and the kit also presented dash flasher problems by choosing not to install saddle bag run/brake/stop lights and opting for HD inserts for those functions instead. Blinkers worked okay, but dash indicators flashed as if a bulb was burnt out. Your ‘13 has those functions on rear fender lights so no problems there for you. Absolutely no rattling with the kit.

when you first mount the tour pack on the rack, their are two sets of holes. did you mount yours in the further back holes? if you did, you can drill your own holes in the mount even further back. i had to do the opposite and drill forward (my is in the solo position and it sat too far back for me to lean against it).

if that still doesn't give you enough room, look at the relocation kits, george anderson, kury, etc.

Thank you for all the great comments, probably should have mentioned that the kit would be installed on a 2018 Limited.

BlazingSaddle - I will do exactly as you did with not installing the saddle bag lights and opting for the rear filler lights instead.

The question I have that no one at the dealership had answered yet is what you do with the wiring harness when the tour pack is removed.

Thanks again...Jim

Thank you for the picture. With the pack removed is the wiring harness under the seat? BTW great looking bike!

I love mine but there are some drawbacks to having that flexibility. Mine does eventually loosen up because the hard plastic bushings eventually flatten out. There is a guy on here (Bobby, gilbos bushings) that sells machined aluminum bushings that do tighten everything up.
I usually run without the tourpack at the beginning of the season and then as my wife wants to ride more throughout the summer and fall, I put the pack on. It can be cumbersome putting the pack on. Especially if you have a bad back like I do, you just have to be careful. My next ride will have the removable brackets as well.
