Default Air breather ignorance

Forgive my ignorance here...I have searched the forum and the web and I see what is available for sale but I think I am missing something on the components.

We have 4 bikes, a Road King, A Street Glide, a Softail Deluxe and an Iron 883. On the 3 larger bikes we want to get rid of the football shaped air cleaner in place of some more aesthetically pleasing and perhaps a slight performance gain. All bikes involved have either rinehart or vance and hines slip ons....

So I know there is the "Big Sucker" version which has the tube and the cone shaped filter face the front of the bike. When you buy one of those kits do they typically include everything needed to replace the newly removed football filter?

Then we also like the look of the round filters and this is where the confusion comes in somewhat. I see all sorts of air cleaner covers for sale but clearly I understand that to be just the cover. I assume that I would have to buy some sort of new air breather kit to replace the football and then put a cover over it? Are there kits that include the whole filter assembly and a cover or is this something that most people purchase separately.

I am sure there is a super easy process as I see it tons of times and I do a lot of wrenching on the bikes and replace my own fluids but for some reason I am ridiculously ignorant in this area and can't seem to figure it all out.

Thanks for your understanding and your help.

The big sucker is an Arlen Ness, the one you are referring to is called a heavy breather.

My suggestion is google DK Custom motorcycle. They have a variety of air cleaners reasonably priced.

You can get a stage 1 air cleaner kit and simply put a round cover on or run it open with a small cover on the very front of the filter.

Sucker, Screamn Eagle, etc include the air filter to replace the OEM filter. They do not include the chrome cover that goes over the top. You'll need to buy one separately. But normally with Sucker and SE you can continue to use the football cover if you chose. Also, may need a dyno tune depending on what all you replace (exhaust, mufflers, air intake).

The guy I took my bike to in Dallas to dyno it gave me a cover. He said he got them from Home Depot or Lowes. You've seen them covering up a drain in the floor. They're chrome and even have a screw hole in the center. I like the football cover so I didn't use it, but it looked fine.

I have a big sicker with a round cover. I didn't like the football.

I have a stage 1 K&N air filter kit and I reused the football cover. Not everyone does but I like it.

You need a stage 1 filter assembly and then you can run a variety of covers. Since you have the exhaust you may already have the stage 1 ac. Remove the covers and post some pics. Here is an example, https://www.harley-davidson.com/stor...ner-kit-chrome
