thanks guys, a little closer look left no doubt what goes where...
mini review:
i was running eclipse speakers with the original cassette deck. the eclipse were a nice improvement over stock.
once i got the sony mex-1gp installed (don't forget to format the giga panel) i cranked up the eclipse speakers and got a lot of distortion at anything over 2/3rds volume.
got the j&m's figured out and now getting a little distortion only at max volume and only on some tracks....this was the garage test...
went for a cruise this evening with the chic and she imediately noticed the stereo was much louder. while for sure it's able to go a lot louder what i really noticed was the quality of the sound, soooo much better.
btw when i first looked at the j&m's i got a little nervous because the eclipses have a bigger magnet....guess size isn't everything....

as for the magnet structure differences,, I spent alot of time and considerably more $$$ using the Neodymium magnet on the J&M speakers instead of the traditional heavy ferrite ,,,,, but felt it was worth it ,,,,,
the result is a speaker magnet with a higher flux strength than the larger ferrite, but smaller and lighter so as to put less stress on the mounting screws etc inside your fairing ,,,,,
I did this knowing full well that I would lose sales in many cases because customers EXPECT to have a large heavy magnet on the speakers they purchase and in fact often equate quality and performance by the size and weight of the speaker magnet ,,,,,,

"Neodymium is used in the strongest permanent magnets known - Nd2Fe14B. These magnets are lighter and stronger than samarium-cobalt magnets. Neodymium magnets appear in high-quality products such as microphones, professional loudspeakers, in-ear headphones, Dokodemo Magnets, guitar and bass guitar pick-ups and computer hard disks where low mass, small volume, or strong magnetic fields are required. "
