I want to store my 2010 street Glide for many years. Looking for suggestions? I want to store
so my grandson can have someday. Put around 75000 miles & toured all lower 48 states.
Have 2 other Harley’s. So want my first Harley to be his grandpas
Given the current weather you are experiencing in the northern plains, it seems like you'll need long term storage before the next riding season.
I have attached an article on how to prepare a motorcycle for preservation. It is from 1999 but I can't imagine much has changed except for the use of EFI. You may find additional information through Google.
If your grandson was just born, by the time he is ready to ride he will inherit a goldmine. What a great act of kindness.
Nice thought but a better idea is to sell the bike and invest the money. A 25 year old bike that needs tires, battery, fuel line ,bearings. brake calipers, master cylinders and lines, bushings. You are leaving him 2500.00 project, nice though but I have my grandpas bike in my garage, It is barley worth the cost to get it rideable.
Well, I pulled mine out after about 20 years of storage in the back of a dirt bottom shed. Replaced the battery, cleaned the carburetor, went riding. 'Course, it was a Honda ;-) The 30 year storage Triumph just took a battery and fired right up. That one was stored in a garage.
But in all sincerity, one of those long term storage bags do work. I've used them, and seen them used. If the bike can sit in a good garage, even that becomes superflous. Fill the fuel tank, or run in dry, change the engine oil so it's clean, pull the battery, keep the tires aired up.
Bull ****.... drain the fuel all traces. Fill the cylinders up with oil.
If you do some maintenance on it every few years .....
Change out the brake fluid , keep the rubber hose lubed . I would put a good coat of wd 40 on it every year.
The tires will definitely be shot.
I see evo's on the road everyday......and I would jump on my 2002 and go anywhere in a heart beat!
