Default Full repaint?

Picked up my new to me bike a while back. Got it for a song due to some cosmetic damage from the bike falling over. I've replaced the outer fairing and would like to swap to the 14+ bags as well. The left bag has some rash and the lid is broken on the corner. It's really not terrible, and I've been riding the hell out of it as-is. Unpainted fairing and all haha.

For those of you out there who have had a a full repaint done at a shop what did it run you? I just want to go back black. Nothing fancy, no stripes, two tone etc. I have a friend who does paint on the side but nailing him down to do it is a challenge to put it nicely. Took him 6mo to do the tailgate on my truck lol. But he does nice work.

The other option ive played around with a bit is doing plasti-dip. That peel off stuff. I've done entire vehicles with friends in the past and it really is cool stuff, and removes easily. Friend of mine does his truck every fall for hunting season to dull it down and keep small scratches from brush etc off it. I've considered trying it out on my bike. Probably just flat black all the painted surfaces to start with. May experiment with some color on my old bags etc... worst case, it sucks and I peel it off... what say you?

IF you decide on plastidip, please make sure you really coat it well and evenly around any round corners. I did mine 3 years ago and held well. But even with shooting 6-8 coats I felt it wasnt enough when it came to peeling it off. Also if you use the rattle cans I had a terrible time with tiger stripes on front fairing and bags. No matter what I did I could not get rid of it.

Cleaning it with dip was so easy but I opted to paint when I went with spokes. Peeling was no fun either, primarily around above stated round areas/corners, it felt like I didnt shoot it evenly in those areas. So be mindful of that

Excellent info. I'd love spoked wheels on mine. I laced all 4 wheels on my other two bikes myself. The looks are timeless. Good info on the dip. I'd like to shoot it with a gun but we'll see. I may try rattle cans first just to see what it looks like, then do a little better job if it's something I want to keep on the bike a while.

I'd say a minimum of $2K for a decent paint job w/a clear coat.

Cool

My modest experience is that prices can vary wildly, even for a single colour non-metallic job like mine. The only 'fancy' stuff I had done was adding tank decals and lining the tank. You really have to look around your locality IMHO, especially if you want to pay a modest price.

I personally wouldn't use a buddy or a cheap finish. I actually used a proper auto paint, from a trade supplier and a local chap who specialises in custom bike paintwork, but who was happy to take on my job. The various parts of my bike, including many secondhand replacement parts, were in no fewer than five different colours before he started!

Another option is spray on bed liner. Had a friend do his bike and it came out nice. Never have to work about scratches that way.

said his whole bike cost him about $30 bucks.

Im doing bags without the covers and a rear fender on a red hot sunglo, which is a bit more, and the cost is 2k. I'd figure black for fender, tank and side covers plus lids would be at minimum 3k
