That is correct. I didn't want it protruding either and am not a big fan of the "frenched" ring. Had a look at the stock setup and it's not like it's sealed up or anything back there inside the fairing...all open behind the headlight anyway. I just took my time and trimmed away a bit at a time until it all fit together flush with the stock trim ring. Ended up trimming away quite a bit because the LED is pretty big on the backside. Fits & looks like stock now.

Apparently the HD mounting ring from a 2012 CVO Ultra (68124-04B) works as well as it's open in the back. I can't confirm it though...plus it's pretty "spendy" at $51.99! Figured a bit of time with my tin snips was free.

Sorry I didn't take any pics and seeing as we're in the dead of winter here now and the bike is stored, I won't be able to take any pics any time soon.

Again, for the price, I'm very satisfied with these Sunpies!

I just installed the Sunpie headlight and aux light set on my 99 Road King last night - love them, and can’t wait to go for a ride at night.

I did get and install with the Sunpie mounting ring for the headlight. When reading the kit application fitment, the older bikes need the headlight ring, while newer bikes, I believe 2014 and newer, install without the ring. Read and choose carefully - I did not read carefully, and I had to order the ring separately, which cost me $10 extra that I could have saved by ordering the kit with the ring included.

What I did learn with this is -

1 - I absolutely needed the ring for the headlight on my bike, and this allowed for a clean install without cutting anything
2 - when mounting the headlight, I found some feedback stating the best install results were to tighten down the 3 spring loaded adjustment screws on the Sunpie mounting ring. This allowed a flush install of the outer trim ring the nacelle.

I also have the visor on my headlight and I’ll need to play with this a little bit, potentially. When I removed my oem headlight, the visor is/was installed with 2 sided tape to keep it in place. I have it installed with the tape left on the visor from removing it, as kind of a padded spacer, but will apply new tape if needed, if the visor does startt moving around.

So, the Sunpie Daymaker LED headlight kit, with the 2 fog/passing/aux lights = $96.98 - feee shipping and no sales tax

The headlight mounting ring bracket = $25.99 - free shipping and no sales tax

My total = $122.97

Kit cost with headlight ring/bracket = $112.99 free shipping and no sales tax

Do you have the visor or the extended trim ring that goes around the headlight? I have the ring that goes around and is pinched together at the bottom with a screw, but Im not able to get it secured with the new headlight in.

I have the visor with the nacelle trim ring that goes over the visor, over headlight, onto the nacelle, and is secured at the bottom center with a single screw inward, into the hole at the bottom of the headlight man using ring, which required a slightly larger diameter course thread screw.

hope that helps

My 1993 ultra classic is going to require some extensive modifications apparently since the headlight won't fit in the bucket due to the back of the light being very large. About 2 inches roughly of the bucket will have to be removed all the way around to fit. I'm wondering if it's really worth the time of making the modifications, am I going to get that much more light out of this fancy light or am I wasting my time?

Hoping they figured it out 6 1/2 years ago.

You may not get many replies without starting a new thread, bunch of grumps here who think knowledge has an expiration date.

I have the Sunpie lights on my bike, I replaced the Harley branded LED set with them. Good lights and certainly an upgrade, but I'm not sure I'd go hacking on my bike to install one. I tend to find a used part to hack for things like that, so I have the original on the shelf. It doesn't hurt as badly if I slip and damage it then.
