I think it depends on the style of lamp. Mine were a sealed one piece light bulb. Some bikes have a bulb that can be removed from the lamp.
I don't remember exactly what connectors my bulb had. Its quite possible that a couple spade connectors would have worked with mine as well. I just hard wired them because none of the supplied connectors were correct and experience tells me that soldered connections are forever. And they arent vulnerable to the "miniscule" vibrations us Harley riders live with...
I get it. On my 99 RK, I bought the Sunpie light kit, with the headlight and the passing lamps, I did require the headlight mounting ring, which I ended up buying afterward, which cost me $10 than buying the correct kit with it, and, I needed to apply spade connectors to the pigtail ends for the passing lamps. No big deal, as the stock passing lamp bulbs were connected with spade connectors.
All 3 of my oem bulbs were the old style sealed halogen bulbs, like in cars, where we have to replace the entire bulb.
Anyway - all good - i love the led lights
