Buy the takes offs for a $150 and try them. You can easily sell them for $225+ if they are the 16 or later version.

The premium shocks on 2017 and newer Touring bikes is not the same as the premium one on 2016 and older. They made some changes to them.
I am happy with the 2017 Premium ones on mine both 1 an 2 up.
When it comes to shock you can't make everyone happy Heck I tried the Progressive 944's that people said where great. Found them to be worthless. And no where near a good as shock old HD air shocks.

check out Legends. You can get both front and rear for under 2k. Well worth the upgrade, improved ride and handling. I highly recommend.

You maybe right, the change was in model year 2017? Well worth verifying part numbers to make sure.

The best $7 I have spent on my bike was for a quart of type F ATF that I put into my stock air shocks. A world of difference for only $7.

That sort of change is fine, especially for riding solo, but the OP is heavy, as also is his passenger. They need much more help than a bottle of oil!

well , we have found that the problem with the stock rear air shocks is not the shock it self but the fittings and the inability to maintain the pressure ...or adjust it on the fly as road conditions or load changes....and that cheesy little hand (so-called) pump !!!

we added all the components for a lowering air ride system but retained the stock air shocks ....
used a nut and ferrule type fitting and better tubing for a no leak system ...now we can adjust the pressure up and down as needed on the fly ...
the ride is very smooth ...when adjusted correctly ...no issues ..
all for less than $100 bucks ...and works and rides great !!!
Just our 2 cents !!!

this **** is the problem with the stock air shocks

added small air tank from police air ride seat

dash mounted air gauge

nut and ferrule fittings ...we used stainless but brass will work just fine ...

then we can air up a flat after plugging it should anyone catch a nail or something when on the road ...connect straight to pump and reach 10-12 feet ...
