ceramic coating
Not to me, regardless of how good it is.
But one area that you may be incorrect on is your assumption that I don't know about 'paint systems'. Been doing auto body and paint since the sixties! But that doesn't' necessarily provide me the knowledge that you have on 'detailing'!
Different disciplines. But personally, I wouldn't pay, what? Nine hundred bucks to protect a paint job. I'd rather make certain that I invested in a high quality paint job in the first place, then use the techniques that you'e perfected and shared with us here. Just makes more sense to me.
But if the OP has that kind of money burning a hole in his pocket, and it has eaglefan1's recommendation, by all means go for it.
But, for me, that would buy an excellent set of shocks or a Rinehart 2 into 1 exhaust...but that's neither here nor there.
Also, not all coatings cost that much. A lot of consumer grade coatings that are not "Permanent" like Pro, are a lot cheaper and do just a good of a job, just not as long
The reason I see the value in them is what we have to deal with living in Fl. First is the pollen like I mentioned. A waxed vehicle would be clean for maybe 5 min in the spring and summer. Coated vehicles, nothing sticks to the coating.
2nd reason is love bug season. They will etch paint if they are not removed in hours. When you are in your car/bike and drive thru them they splatter everywhere. A coated car, those bug guts can be hit by a hose and removed. No hard scrubbing or harsh chemicals.
You do have a very valid point that coatings are not for everyone, and I should have mentioned that.
I never have had a customer bring his coated vehicle back to me and say they didn't like it though. But I have had them bring it back swirled up because they didn't follow proper washing techniques
Like I say...and have said...you do know what you're talkin' about!

I would love to live where you do weather wise. Perfect year around!
FL, where I am, is like the dam Congo in the summer time. So dam hot it isn't much fun to ride.
Be safe
Pictures don't really tell the story with water beading. Coatings have a very high water contact area so as soon as you start driving water flies off. I mean really flies off. Maybe even more important they sheet water like nothing else. Waxes will bead but not on the same level with coatings.
Meguires makes good products but I just have never got into their stuff. Just not for me. The make very economical products, I have a gallon of their APC, it does the job and is cost effective.
If you really like waxes try a small jar of Fuzion. It will last longer and easier to work with. Looks are subjective but it really brings out deep colors. I have the big jar that I have used twice, and for a wax its nice to work with
If he wants even more gloss have him try Polish Angel Cosmic topped with High Gloss. It is absolutely stunning! I did my bike last week with it and can not get over the depth, clarity and gloss of this stuff. After applied it looks incredible. Day after its amped up more. 2nd day its craziness!.
I don't ever say something is the best however, this is at the top of LSPs I have used.
