I didn't understand when my brother detailed the underside of his bike, not HD, with a q tip. Didn't then, don't now. I think it's an exercise in futility.
But it's your bike and we all have our foibles so if it makes you happy, why not...
a bit much for me. I hit under about 2 times a yr. with degreaser and water hose. The older I get the less fun it is and it has started to feel like work. still, I like it to look good.
kroozeabout.
I get just as much enjoyment cleaning my bike as I do riding her.
Cold beer in the garage, rocking out... cleaning my bike .....good afternoon!
I don't understand the guys who ride a filthy piece of ****.....just don't get it.
My bike is machine that deserves to look her best.....
You are a man who takes care of what he works hard for, I have total respect for that! I am the same way with my 2017 SGS, I wax every square inch of my bike including the frame rails underneath, I even polish the drain plug with mothers. Tank, fairing and bags get a complete wax once a week, overkill, probably, but I love it and it makes me happy to do it.
Now polishing your drain plug with Mothers might be a tad over the top
labor of love. A good cleaning should take about 2 hours..... or approximately 7-8 beers, lol
I dont see anything out of the ordinary here, and as it is bad weather, absolutely appropriate.
I do not like cleaning my bike, I would much rather ride.
But I love my bike when it is clean, so I clean it a lot.
That includes the underside.
HD Mechanics that have worked on my bike have even remarked how it was void of any indication of oil leaks (maybe because I did a lot of work myself, including re-doing work they did.)
But then again, I have been described as eccentric.
When I service the bikes on the lift, I'll hit the underside with spray-on cleaner and rag it down. Not looking to make more work, but if the bikes at eye level on the lift and I see dirt, I'll usually clean it off. Nothing obsessive about it.
