Shocks are on my list to replace soon. The stock air shocks on the 03 RK classic have done their time [150k].
I'm trying to get a grasp of which shock and size. I'm 285 and she's 185. Mostly it's 2 up on this bike. Some road trips involved so that's another 50-60 lbs couple times a year.
Reading about going to 14" [not sure what stock length is] with a adapter to take the weight. Will that effect the belt adjustment or bike height a lot? Is it worth it?
Any thoughts/suggestions?
Also you guys above recommending front replacement. Thinking I may as well do that end too. What do you figure is best there?
Agreed...I have about 15,000 miles on my 944's and like them much better than the factory air shocks. (12 RKC).
I had the monotubes but they were too stiff for me. I replaced with Progressive springs and like them as well.
Just looking to buy some 944s... Don't see the need to go overboard on the 970s. I'm 195 (hoping to lose a few of those) SO doesn't ride with me often, so probably the Standard spring....
What length though?? Is 12" the stock length?? I don't want to lower at all... 12.5 give some extra lean angle??
I'm 5'10" and have no issues putting the feet on the ground...
Helpful thoughts as to what to go with for length and the why of it?
now if you take the time to set sag you might even be happier. I was fortunate to be in Myrtle Beach last year and was able to pull up to their trailer and two guys took bags off and set the sag for me no charge....while I was there the rep from Progressive replaced the bushings for me at no charge as well. He said that the bushings he put in were the upgrade. Since I ride pretty aggressive I tend to like my bike a little on the stiffer side.
2 Thumbs up for the Progressive guys, in MB last year. I had the same experience, not only did they replace my bushings but they swapped out my springs for me too. No charge. I had the standard springs they swapped out the heavy duty for me. Made the ride with me and the misses MUCH BETTER.
