RE: Garmin Zumo 550
ORIGINAL: BFMC
With the Zumo 550, does the music from the xm or mp3 player come from the built in speaker?
The zumo 550 comes with two mounts, one for your bike and one for your car/truck. The car mount has a built-in speaker, so when mounted in your car, the answer to your question is yes. However, the motorcycle mount doesn't have a built-in speaker, so you either have to plug into your stereo speaker system (if your bike is equipped with one) or use a Bluetooth headset to listen to XM radio, mp3 music, or hear voice directions. I use a Motorola Bluetooth headset and it works fine.
If you are playing MP3 music from your Zumo with an attached audio lead to you HD HK system the music will mute when audio directions are given. If you are playing the HK system the audio is not muted and the Zumo does not announce directions.
When I was replacing my HD speakers with the Hogtunes - I hard wired my Zumo connection into the accessory plug.
Does this allow the voice of the GPS through the bikes speakers. Is this like using MP3.
Mike
I don't think it would because I just hardwired the current wire. I use a blue tooth headset to hear thing - most of the time I don't like listening to it - I just watch the screen and listen to the tunes............
I noticed the same thing, at 80 miles an hour on the Zumo I am only going 76 miles per hour, had a friend check with his radar unit, the Zumo is correct and the factory speedo is wrong.... we all think we are speeding and are not.... might save someone a ticket, also might make you believe that you are getting better fuel mileage...

I just put the new Garmin Zumo 550 GPS on my 06 Ultra and love it. I checked the speed from the GPS vs. speedo on both of my cars - the Garmin showed exactly the same speed as the car speedo. Mounted it on theUltra - speedo read exactly 5%faster than GPS (63 MPH on bike vs reading 60 MPH on the GPS). HD engineers should be better than that.
Question - I want to be able totake the GPS and mount off of the bike when local. Anyone know of a good weather proof connector that would let meleave the hardwiring attached to the bike andjust unplug the RAM mount and GPS when not in use?
Every vehicle is different. My GPS, when in my 03 GMC truck is off by 3 mph. Truck syas 70, GPS says 67. Same on my wife's VW Jetta. Jetta says 70, GPS says 66. On Ultra Classic. Bike shows 55, GPS shows 50. Not a big deal!.
