Default Garmin Zumo 550

I just put the new Garmin Zumo 550 GPS on my 06 Ultra and love it. I checked the speed from the GPS vs. speedo on both of my cars - the Garmin showed exactly the same speed as the car speedo. Mounted it on theUltra - speedo read exactly 5%faster than GPS (63 MPH on bike vs reading 60 MPH on the GPS). HD engineers should be better than that.

Question - I want to be able totake the GPS and mount off of the bike when local. Anyone know of a good weather proof connector that would let meleave the hardwiring attached to the bike andjust unplug the RAM mount and GPS when not in use?

I cut the end off the hardwire and connected it to a cig. lighter attachement I got from Radio Shack. I only have the ball mout left on the handle bars so when I need to use it I just pop it on plug it in the lighter socket and go.

I bought one of the 2 prong plugs that are similar to the Battery Tender plug. I haven't installed it yet, but it should work just fine.

My road king classic is actually opposite. The GPS will show 65 and the speedo shows about 62. so I guess by using the speedo, It keeps me legal

that's the same exact speedo error i get. At 75 it's about 4mph off.

And personally i always leave the mount on since i use the fuel gauge on the Zumo, so the Zumo goes where i go.

I like the battery tender connection option tho. As those connectors are pretty bomb proof.

I used the SAE connector like on the Battery Tender. Cut the Zumo power lead about 6 inches from the mount and brought the power lead out from the fairing and ty-wrapped it to the other wire bundle along the handlebar. Be careful to use the recessed contact for the hot lead.

If we may suggest, Powerlet has some bullett proof connectors that you might want ot take a look at.

They are water proof as well as well constructed.

I cut the motorcycle power cord that came with the 550 and attached a cigarette lighter male adapter to the cut end. (On the first try, I made the cord way too long, so I re-did it and shortened it). Now to remove the GPS, all I have to do is unplug the power, loosen the big wing nut on my Ram-mount and remove the cradle, 550 and all. All that stays on the bike is the ball that's attached to the handle bar.

The cigarette lighter adapter I used came from:
http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs...0001/311/310/9
I only needed the adaptor, Part # 6867899. It works fine.

I'm going back to westmarine.com and buy the two-into-one (or maybe I should say two-out-of one) cigarette lighter adaptor so I power my cell phone and 550 at the same time. Don't recall the Part # for the two-into-one, but I know I saw one on Westmarine.

btefft. I bought a 2-1 or 1-2, which ever way you want to look at it, from Walmart. I use it in the car to power all the various equipment the wife and kids need on a trip. I am sure the same thing will work on a bike. An adapter is an adapter. Or, I should think, anyways.

With the Zumo 550, does the music from the xm or mp3 player come from the built in speaker?
