yes. Since it marries to the ecm you have to buy a license in order to connect to a new ecm.
Why do you want to carry a spare?
Because of this and my sig pic on the Dalton Highway. I ride in remote places by myself and want the ability to work myself out of whatever problem I might encounter. I just had an ECM brick on me and I'm not sure what something like that costs in Fairbanks, AK (with a tow) but my guess it's time consuming and expensive. Even if I never need it, it will have been worth my while to have it.

I had a problem last summer and a dealer replaced my ECM. I scanned the work order, a picture would have worked, and sent it to DynoJet and they licensed the new ECM at no charge.
yeah, but that was after the fact. nomadmax wants to be able to flash the extra ecm before the failure occurs. in that case, I don't think dynojet would give you the extra license.

Maybe, if it was "on your honor"
(that it wouldn't be used unless the original went "Belly Up")

Then he would need to pay the $200 for another license. If he would wait until he actually needs it $0. If I remember right, you have to hook up to a computer and download a file from DJ to the tuner interface then download your stored map to the new ECM.
My ecm had to be married to the bike, can you have two married at once?

It might be worth 200.00 bucks to me to have a back up ECM ready to go. Not knowing the system, I was thinking I could prepare the back up ECM at home before I left, then just carry the ECM. I wouldn't really need the tuner would I?

If you had it loaded with the same map as youre currently running you should be fine. Easy to swap out and try.
Do you need your spare ECM flashed to the bike ?
The guys a DynoJet were great to talk to, you should give them a call and see what they think.
I'm gonna dig into this and see what I can come up with. I pick up my Power Vision dyno tuned bike next week. I did send out a question to Fuel Moto regarding this as well but today is Sunday.
