Hi, took an '03 Road King with H.D. sidecar for a test ride yesterday (26,000 miles) , noticed a whining sound through all gears and when decelerating. Sound changed with gear change and as speed increased. Didn't think it was a big deal but am now concerned it could be a bearing or something. I didn't notice the sound when revving it with clutch in, also didn't check belt tension. Cold and rainy today and tomorrow so I won't get to try it again right away. Any info or thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks
In all seriousness, though, I'd also be wondering about a bearing especially with it affecting all gears, but I don't know enough about these transmissions to comment. Maybe worth draining fluids from trans and primary separately, and check each to see if there's an inordinate amount of metal on drain plug magnets or lots of (or large) metallic specs in fluid...?
