Well.......Stripped out the allen head screw on one of the rear brackets.

In the future, I would consider purchasing a 3/8 impact driver.

I would try a larger size allen in there first. You may have to lightly hammer it in so it is nice and tight. If this fails.....

Try using the largest size torx and hammer that in. Should be a very tight fit as well. If this fails....

Try using a flat tip screwdriver to attempt to get a good bite at it. The main objective is to find something that fits tight in there at this point. If this fails....

Sometimes, you can take a small chisel and hit the side of the screw. Hit the chisel so that the screw turns to the left.

Last resort.....drill hole out and use an easeout.

I've had luck in the past tapping a slightly larger torx bit into a stripped allen head hole.

I'm not sure of the setting of where the allen head screw is, but if you stripped out the inside of the head, you should still be able to grab it with pliers and turn it out that way. The screw material is pretty hard so you will need a new drill bit to drill it for the easy out. If you were using an allen head wrench on a new screw and it stripped, are you sure it wasn't a torx head screw?

been there with the stripped screw, take a dremel with a cutting wheel, cut slot, and use a large flat head screw driver. And a manual impact is a life saver.

Ditto to Mathews2,
I've done this myself with good luck. Only problem might arise if your screw head is countersunk with shiny chrome or plastic around it this gets pretty risky. Tapping the appropriately sized torx bit is a great idea as chip mentioned, I also had luck with this on one occasion.

If you can remove the bracket and the screw extends past the threaded part, I've had luck with gently using a pair of plies on the part of the the screw that goes through. Sometimes you can back it out enough to grab the head with a pair of vice grips and not mess up surrounding chrome.

Most of the sugestions posted sound Ok Do yourself a favor and replace those button head allen bolts with grade 5 or grade 8hex head bolts. Use a really good quality allen wrench and the hex should be OK in the future.

The manual impact will save you a lot of grief in the future. Sears has a good screw removal kit, includes the drill and tap.

07 RKC -Vivid Black. Stock except for reach seat and removeable backrest.

Bummer. Hope these tips help out. I have used just about all of them at some point. Just watch out to not scratch up the surrounding chrome. Masking tape works well enough.
