In some instances, "Price Controls" are used to curtail sales volumes to protect inventory "Restrictions", then some folks panic and buy more (Hoarding) resulting in even more profits going to the top.

Gas Buddy has ours going from about $2.95-$3.40 per gallon. most seems to be around $3.05. Don't forget, Memorial day is around the corner. they always jack the price a bit during travel holidays.
Reno Nevada average per-gallon $3.27 for regular, and seems to go up every few days.
93 Octane is about $0.20 higher, and that is the summer blend of gas. We are at about
4,600 feet above sea level, Lake Tahoe is about 6,000 feet. I'm thinking every other 1/2
tank 89 Octane, or some Octane Booster to help on fill up.
I paid $3.14 for 93 no ethanol this morning in Beebe, AR. What's crazy is if I go to Searcy which is about 20 miles up the road I can get the same gas, same jobber that owns the same stations for .06-.08 cents cheaper. Beebe is closer to the terminal than Searcy is.
