Heat shield fix

The bracket for the hose clamp on the center exhaust heat shield of my 16 Street glide came off at the welds.. Don't know how. Has anyone used the JD Weld or other high temp glue on the heat shield? welder says it would discolor the shield and may start it cracking...Any other suggestions???

They're tack welded then chromed. I doubt you can glue it back on. Was the clamp way overtightened?

From:

drill a hole through the bracket and heat shield. go to a hardware store and get a small screw, lock washer and an acorn nut in stainless steel. put the acorn nut on the outside.

No it wasn't over tightened, may have been loose though. Maybe rattled loose...

You can find take off heat shields oretty cheap online. Just get another set and be done with it.

I went the small screw and nut route too. Been that way a couple years now, no issues.

My front heat shield just did this. Found a set of nice take-offs from a member here and currently waiting on them to ship. The plan is to run the nicer of the two sets with the good front shield and repair the broken one (I'll try brazing it) and have a set powder coated. Figure out which set I like best and shelve the others for a rainy day.
