I have an issue with my bike not starting. Went to try and start it and it popped an ignition fuse. Replaced it and it popped again. I can see the volts dropping when I’m hitting the start button. Tested the relay (it clicks and the resistance checks out). Pulled the starter off and it spins and when power is applied to it, it spins normally. The battery is new.. about a month old. Anyone have any other tips on things to check on my ‘08 RG? Thanks in advance.
If everything is good up until you hit the start button then the red/black wire must be shorted going to the relay. You could pull the relay and check continuity to ground on the socket 4H-86. If it shows open, no continuity, with the bike off push the start button and see if it goes to ground.

so check the continuity on 4H-86, I get a good reading.
Even with the relay removed and hitting the start button, the fuse blows.
Find connector 22 and disconnect it. On 22A put one meter lead on the BK/R and the other lead to ground. With the meter set to measure resistance it should show open,no continuity to ground. Push the start button and see if you still have an open or if you have continuity to ground. If that looks good check the same wire on the other side of the connector to ground.
You could just pull your switch housing apart and see if you can find the problem.
Is there a "now here is the rest of the story"? Have you done anything recently, such as changed hand grips, changed handle bars, wired in some new lights, radio or amp? Since the fuse pops when the start relay is removed, the short is in the triggering circuit between the button and the relay. Use the diagrams above and determine the color code for that wire and start looking for a pinched place or insulation worn through, most likely around the steering head. Have you installed any new screws that may have gone through their base material and punctured a wire underneath?

I haven’t changed anything on the bars or the stereo in the last 8k Miles. It was really hot the day it broke, for our area. Maybe the heat made it melt something. I’ll pull the fairing off tomorrow and check it out.
