I was debating about rigging up a GoPro mount on the center stud for my wind shield. Figured I could use one that mounts to a screw and swap out the center screw for the wind shield.
Anybody see any issues with this? If so I'll just go the boring way and mount to the engine guard....LOL
What bike? If its the RG in your avatar then I would worry about the extra weight on the screw and vibration/shock from bumps causing stress cracks on your outer faring.

I put a RAM ball attachment on the outside windshield screw hole.
I have used the center screw on my windshield and also on my Woodys' fairing, you are good to go!!. Using the center screw with the correct mount( if you can see it in picture) brings the camera closer in with less leverage. Other option is a suction cup mount..

GoPro now has a handle bar mount available. It actually looks pretty good. I currently have 16"apes so the camera will most likely be above the wind shield. In this location It is easier to operate the camera as desired. The cost for the mount is around $65.00. I found this info on the GoPro website.
While I have a different bike, I used a small ball mount underneath the left mirror stem. No vibration and plenty strong. I always use a safety lanyard, just in case.

I believe it is called a tripod mount( it came with one of the cameras I snagged off EBay). Basically a flat bottom with female threads that would screw onto tripod....
