It was designed for rider comfort only. It might make a little difference in heat on the riders leg,but I never noticed it.

Mine was off when I bought my bike. Funny enough, I hopped on my bike last night after work and thought I saw the cruise indicator come on and blink. Got to the off ramp from the interstate and when I stopped, thought I had a massive misfire. WTF? Went away off-idle. Oh yeah...checked the EITMS status and there it was. Somehow I enabled it. I did not not have any hesitation as someone mentioned. It actually worked pretty well. Didn't sound very good with my exhaust setup, so I disabled it again when I got home. I don't want or need it.

when its activated at a stop BLIP the throttle before taking off so it kicks back in.. had it activated on my switchback
and the bike stalled on me a couple time until I got used to giving the throttle a blip before taking off

other than that you will love it in the hot temps as it really helps

I'd avoid that stop-n-go traffic in Death Valley.

Have any documentation on that claim, or is it just your opinion? I'm pretty sure it's there to keep the engine cool and not the rider. It just so happens that lower temps are good for the rider.

I think I've seen HD marketing materials that touted it as a "rider comfort" feature. Why else would it be optional? If HD was worried about overheat issues they wouldn't allow you to disable it. Think about it.

I'm sure most here know, but it shuts off the rear cylinder at idle and I believe it also ups the fuel charge a bit to run the engine a little cooler, maybe before the cylinder shut off kicks in. At least that's how it was set up back in the mid 2000's. It was claimed to be for rider comfort as H-D claimed the engine is not overheating.

My bike did not have it, but shortly after the '07's came out it was offered as a no cost one time computer flash add on by the dealer so I had mine done, along with the frame mounted heat deflectors. I don't think I can shut mine off since it isn't a fly by wire throttle, but I have no need to disable it. They help for sure, but it still gets pretty warm in the 90's sitting at a light in traffic with pavement heat boiling up also. When in a lot of traffic mine will come on fairly easily. With the FuelPak, cams and head work along with dual exhaust I don't have near the issue with heat as I did when it was new.

No mention of "rider" comfort.
[From the owner's manual]: "The Engine Idle Temperature Management System (EITMS) can provide limited cooling of the rear cylinder for riders who frequently find themselves in prolonged idle conditions or traffic congestion.
Operation:
When engine temperature reaches a predetermined point, the EITMS turns off the rear cylinder fuel injector. The rear cylinder becomes an "air pump" which works to cool the engine."
