I just installed new pads on both calipers of my 2009 Road King Classic...Everything works great, no vibration, no noise when stopping...My issue is when I go to take off, I get a high pitched whistle( squeal) for about 50 ft, then it disappears.. I used Harley OEM pads, and torqued everything to specs....Caliper at 38 ft lbs, Pad Pin at 180 in lbs.... Any suggestions to this issue??
Have you checked the rotors to see if they are straight and true? Could be slightly dragging from a stop if they aren't which is causing the noise that then disappears at higher speeds. Has to be a moving parts/rubbing issue to produce a squeal/whistle.
I did not check rotors for straight and true....The pads that were on there, didnt wear down totally, only 16k on the bike....There were no squeal or noises before the new pads...Im thinking maybe pad to piston noise? I didnt use any grease on back of pads, which I read alot of people do use and has solved brake squeal..
Most likely that is the calipers vibrating. There are products that you can add to back of brake pads (ONLY THE BACK) that will address this problem. I use CRC Disc Brake Quiet. Its like a red silicone type stuff but it silenced my squeaky brakes completely.
CRC Disc Brake Quiet, can get at Amazon.
As in the video, apply a little to the back of the pad where the old pads show metal to metal contact.
I like to apply it, then lay them out in the sun a few minutes to "Skin Over", then install.
That bottle will last you a lifetime!
Thank you guys for all the help,,,I bought some CRC Brake Quiet, applied to back of pads, and noise all gone !! That problem solved , but still had to take it in, as in my rear tire was down to 10# of air, over nite.....I looked, no nails, or anything in it, and its only 1 year old , as is the tube......Grrrrr, and not sure if Ill get it back for the holiday weekend.......When it rains it pours !!
