I've got 3 different GPS units- The HK on the 07 SEUC, (sort of sucks), a Tom-Tom in my pickup, and a Garmin 295 for the airplane. The Tom-Tom is somewhat better than the HK, but still leaves something to be desired. The Garmin is more user friendly, but since it's avaition related, it really sucks as far as road stuff goes. The newer Garmin units are way better.

Hi TimAT,
When you say "newer" how new are you talking?
The 2610 has been out for maybe 4 or 5 years and still seems to do what I need.
But, like I said earlier, I am impressed with the zumo 550, but it's just alot of money.
I am trying to figure what the difference is after I add the cost of all that I will need to mount it on my bike. If it's only $200.00, maybe I'll spring for it!!
Just not sure at this point.
Have seen a number of folks w/issues with TomTom - to the point that ah wouldn't buy one on a bet. Ah'm runnin' a 2610 - not as current as the newer ones, but only 'bout 325 bucks, too.
Do you have any trouble seeing the 256-color display in direct sunlight? BTW, these are down to about $225 on Ebay (new). This is getting into my budget category.
How do you use these things on a motorcycle? Do you try to use headphones to hear the voice or do you just watch the screen? On a long trip I would think you would forget about it and miss a turn????
Have to chime in here for the Zumo 550. Have had mine for about three weeks now and it is awesome. I have two other GPS units between my wife and I, another Garmin (C330) and a Pioneer AVIC-S1. I had originally bought the pioneer with plans to mount it on my RK, then the Zumo came out so I held off and finally bought the Zumo (gave the Pioneer to one of the kids). Glad I did.
As others have said, go with the 550 if you want to use it on the bike and in cars as it comes with both mounts. BTW, the car mount comes with a built in speaker and microphone so you can hear the directions and also use it as a hands free phone as long as your cell phone has bluetooth.

Pretty simple to use earbuds if you want to hear the directions. But it is very usable without as well. It tells you how far to the next turn in a small window in the lower right of the screen so it is pretty easy to keep track. If it says 10 miles to next turn then you know you don't really have to glance at it for some time. Also, a big white arrow shows up on your track when you get close to a turn.
