The Dunlop run flat tires are only put on police service motorcycles. They are not rated for 2-up riding. I don't think that Dunlop sells them to the general public as they are not meant for normal riding.

Whit what they add in radio equipment and strobes doesn't that add almost as much weight as a second rider?

Last bike was FXDP(Dyna Defender) I ran 30K mi in just over 2yrs--3rd Rr and 2nd Fr tires in that time, they worked great. Dunlop was very uncooperative on info. Police Mechanic told me issue was with fact that most riders check tires by sight--these never look low even when they are, due to solid sidewalls. Turns into safety issue for Dunlop. Supposedly one of the reasons not available to public. I personally loved the run-flat(Police) tire performance, both single and 2-up.

when i got my EG polce it had the dunlop run flat tires on the front/rear.
When i needed new tires, i went back with the regular dunlops.
The HD dealer DID give me the option of putting the run flats back on...they are about twice the price.
Most dealers should have them in stock or at least available on a few days notice.
They do say solo rider only...i think for legal reasons only...
go figure_
solo with 150# of police equipment attached or rider/passenger with 200# rider and 150# passenger....its the SAME weight.

The GW riders are using a run flat car tire. I think it's designed for a Mini-Cooper. They have a forum called the dark side on their site that only discusses running car tires on bikes. Seems you can get the GVWR ya need with the run flat capability.......Cmack

Called Dunlop tires- left a message - they actually called back - they told me they DO NOT make a run flat tire.... At first the caller just kept repeating himself - I kept asking the same question in a different way - finally he warmed up and said that they do make a 404PT (Police only tire) He said that people often confuse that tire with a run flat because the side was is Much "stiffer" than a normal Dunlop Harley tire and he told me that they would Not sell that tire to anyone expcept the PD's... I just called my two local HD shops and both will gladly sell me the tire... However, in talking with the last one - he told me that as far as he knew - it only came in a 130 for both front and rear (apox $143 each). I just called my local PD dept and left a message with the Lt incharge of the bikes - they run these tires - My question to him will be "his impressions of the tires and if any officer has ever had a "rapid air loss" flat..

I am very interested in these - hey if it will allow us just a few more seconds to get the speed down on a rapid air loss flat... I am all for it.... however - going back to a 130 rear does not excite me all that much

Anyone here run the 402PT or have any "Real" knowledge about it??

BTW - each shop I talked to - when ask - twoup riding on these.. The answer was "yes" More research is needed...

Default RE: Run Flat tires??

I run NOTHING but D402 Police tires on my Electra Glides. I get more mileage out of these compared to the civilian versions and I find the safey measure a bonus. I have actually experimented a little and here is what found out.

One of the Electra Glides I have....it had the civilian D402. I deflated the tire to see if the bike was rideable....not a chance. It gets completely flat and the bike cannot be ridden.

The other Electra Glide had Police D402 on it. I deflated the tire completely.....it did look low, but the rim was off the ground. The bike was still somewhat rideable though....it didn't handle very well, but I could at least ride that way without tearing up the rim. Of these two experiments...both bikes were ridden solo.

The tires are not run-flat types and are not designed that way. The sidewall is much stronger than the civilian ones. The strong sidewall is what keeps the tire up off the ground.

The only real complaint I have towards them....they are more difficult to install as opposed to civilian tires. That unique bead and the strong sidewall....can make a routine tire change a real PITA.

I recommend the D402PT for any bike that gets a 130/90-16. If you don't have to have whitewalls or a tire that says "Harley" on it....then these are for you. If you shop around, you can actually get these for less money than the civilian version.

Solo rider only....I ride twoup all the time without any troubles.
