I'm using the kuryakyn fuel door and the HD universal pinch mount (although I found it somewhere else for cheaper). Combine the two and I've used it for long distance trips (gps, bluetooth, etc) as well as just small rides around town.

I went with the Ram mount also. My bike is older, so it was hard to find what other people had done...but I took a shot and it seemed to work out!

To mount the mount (lol), I went with:

I bolted the ball on the mirror stud from the bottom.

For what it's worth, again, my bike being older, I don't have all the extras of modern stereos. .I tried several bluetooth adapters and didn't have a lot of luck. I finally bought this item, a bluetooth/FM transmitter. I am thrilled with how well it works and has excellent sound quality. I like that you can skip through tracks by pressing left or right on the face, almost as good as a handlebar mounted remote. It does accept micro SD and USB drives also. Plus, it shows voltage output

So, for about $60, my Evo Ultra has bluetooth

In happy with my rokform case and perch mount. I run 14"apes and this keeps my phone right within my view. Plus the rokform cases are magnetized so I can put the phone on the bike while watching youtube and trying to figure out whatever I'm doing when wrenching on the bike.

I use the Nite Ize: Steelie with bar mount. Its magnetic and has a secondary rubber harness for more stability. Just finished a 1700 mile trip and the phone didn't budge.

Default I like mine on the faring dash behind the windshield

I prefer our mount that goes behind the windshield. It sits in your line of site, no looking down or over to the side not to mention less vibration than the bars.

Washboards and baby heads are both very rough, but sure don’t mean you have to crash.

I have used many RAM mounts over the years and like their products, but I have to vote strongly for the Klok Werks IO. It looks good when the phone is on it, and even better when the phone is off of it. No big plastic “X” or clamp, or anything. Easy to swivel to the exact position wanted, holds no matter what, looks like it is part of the bike, not an add-on. Warning, if you use an iPhone X or other wireless charging phone, do what I do and use a plastic case for the phone to attach the stainless steel disc, and use it on trips. Use no case or a different case for normal day to day, as the disc will interfere with charging wirelessly. No problem whatsoever on normal cord charging.

On the Ram X mount, make sure you glue the rubber pads onto the mount with the included super glue. Otherwise those rubber pads can slip off which is probably how phones come off the mount. Also the "tether" (basically a big square rubber band) should always be attached to the phone when mounted. Only takes a few seconds to loop it over each corner and the phone is rock solid after that. The mirror stalk mounted ball is what I use (can also be mounted with a bolt and nut through the mirror hole) along with a coiled power cord wrapped once around the bars.
