I am having Rhinehart True Duals and a Thundermax installed in the morning. I am curious to know which air cleaner everyone would recommend. I have narrowed the selection down to the Zippers kit or the Arlen Ness Big Sucker. I saw a picture of the Zippers air cleaner and it looks a little thicker which usually means better air flow right? I am not sure if the Zippers backing plate that comes with it allows for air flow as good as the one with the Arlen Ness Big Sucker. Also, I know the Arlen Ness comes with a chrome back plate? Does anyone know if the Zippers back plate is chrome?
I am having this done in the morning so prompt replies would be greatly appreciated.
I am doing a stage 1 on my Ultra with SERT and V&H Ovals. I purchsed the Ness unit but had buyers remorse. It is only a K&N "type" of element, not the real thing plus I have read a number of complaints of the backing plate breaking from forum members.
I bought a K&N kit, the RK 3909 at Auto zone for $110.
Now I have the real thing. The backing plate is black but I am not a chrome fan to the excess.
I have the zippers on mine and the back plate is not chrome, only the front cover. but since its a back plate you don't see it!
I actually run a twin cam 88 cover insert on the end of mine for local riding on days where I don't have to worry about the weather. It looks just like the customs now with the K&N filter showing. If I go on a trip I will put the full cover on incase it rains. Its only 1 bolt and takes 2 seconds
Does anyone know where I can get a Big sucker back plate. I don't need the whole kit, just the back plate. My fault, I was tightening the back plate to the throat of the carb and pop'd the pot metal. anmyone? thx in advance, Rich
I don't know if you have looked into DOHERTY air cleaners or not. They are a little pricey but well worth the money. I put a ThunderMax along with Doherty and SuperTrapp 2:1 exhaust on and I can give my buddy a big run for his money with his 103! Milage is still at 40mpg also.
I recently did a stage 1 on my Ultra using ANBS, SERT and V&H Ovals. The intake still uses my stock housing but of course the black plastic housing has been removed. I've wondered if that would be a problem in the rain. What have you guys found on this????
