GPS....
I can program an exact route, figuring in what I want to see, and where I'll stop.... and when the mood moves me... I can turn it and fly by the seat of my pants
I use the GPS for turn by turn, (mostly in unknown urban areas), and my trusty Ski Doo map bag. Super thin, and loops onto my handlebars of the Harley, my dirt bike and when those get put away, my snowmobile. I actually modified it so the zipper was on top, instead of on the bottom. I was losing stuff.
I can tuck it between the fairing and the tank. I like paper maps to find curvy roads along rivers & streams.
I have used the GPS (older Garmin) with the Pick up truck. The issue i have is when the ignition is shut off the GPS goes off, When i start the truck to drive i must then find the route I am going on. I do not want to wire direct on battery. I know there are good options out there. When the time comes and it is coming, Stage 1, The Harley Auto Tuner, and hooking up a GPS and some kind of paper map/direction holder. Just don`t want to buy a half dozen products before I find the one that works for me.
I generally just look at maps or plot a route using google maps and print it out for reference should I need it for a refresher. On the glide I have the Nav system and on the road king I have a garmin zumo that I can put on if I want to but unless I am not familiar with an urban area I rarely use either GPS.
I study the map and get a general idea of the places I want to see and always have a good map with me. I like the gps for navigation, music and finding stores or whatever I might need along the way. I have been all over North America without gps, but I would hate to have to travel without it again.
