I have a 99 RK. The OEM headlight has become foggy and hazy. I'm sure I could restore it, but what is real world experience with aftermarket LED headlights? Looking for a drop in plug and play deal
I have the HD Daymaker (I know you are asking about aftermarket, just commenting on visibility) -- I find that the difference in terms of lighting up the road at night is huge.
Thanks for the feedback. I'd go with HD if its worth the $$. Needed opinions from those who've gone before me. Just saw a youtube vid for the daymaker.. Looks like a winner!
I have a 200 Road King, installed a Sunpie kit from Amazon for $100 which included the 2 Fog lights. (Light that copies the JW Speaker 8700 light, which I think is the same as the HD Daymaker)
1) you need the headlight adapter that holds and aims the headlight - the factory one won't work because the opening in the back is too small. the LED has a transformer or something in the back that takes up a lot of space, so the factory holder/aiming adjuster assembly won't work. Maybe you could modify the factory holder by cutting a lot of it away...i bought it all as a package on Amazon, so I didn't look too close.
2) Wow, MUCH MUCH brighter! The light is LED white, not yellow, lights up road signs a long way out, and i can definitely see at night a lot further. I'm also sure that cagers can see me better also. cons...Low has a definite "line"- -bright below, dark above, also there are a couple of small dark spots where the LED's on the headlight don't cross. The fog lights fill in those areas well though.
3) had a little trouble aiming it - it was shining way to high when initially installed. had to crank the top screw all the way out, and the 2 left/right screws all the way in to get it to shine low enough, and even then it may be shining just a smidge too high. I may end up shimming the headlight aiming assembly down just a bit more.
I have the daymaker HD headlight and driving lamps, difference is day and night. These lights are made by JW Speaker and rebranded for HD. If you get the JW Speaker light is a lot cheaper. I have them on my Jeep Wrangler JK, again, same light, just a cheaper price. I have an extra one but it is black, not chrome.
